Quote of the Day

I gleaned the following from Digby's Hullabaloo:

Please tell us again why the Spanish translation of the National Anthem is making wingnut heads explode when they all but genuflect at the waving of the Confederate Rebel flag?

Tell me please, which of these was meant to turn hearts to America, and which is meant to tear the country apart?

I wrote a pieca about this when I got back from Charlotte on Sunday. To me, this whole outrage over a Spanish translation of the National Anthem is a non-issue, drummed up by the right wing to divert focus away from high enegry and fuel costs, congressional corruption, White House chicanery, and a failing war--all these things that, for the most part, Republicans are responsible for. It's not a real issue, and I really don't care that a couple of Puerto Ricans (which, if I recall, is an American territory) sung the Anthem in another language. So? You still haven't cleaned up all the mess from Katrina, and there's another hurricane season coming. Let's focus on that, before we devolve into stupid and inane issues like these.

You know, people still hang those Stars and Bars in Carolina, and I know firsthand--I've driven the area around Lowe's Motor Speedway. There's nothing more unnerving than driving around as a black guy, and seeing...oh, three or four of these flags hanging around. Now, I might have the people pegged wrong; I ain't sticking around to find out. To say you find yourself praying for an arterial road that leads you back to the Interstate is an understatement.
